Now showing: The world’s deepest subsea tunnel

The B1M is the world’s largest YouTube channel for construction projects, with 4 million subscribers. In early June, the channel presented the Boknafjord Tunnel project in Norway in an impressive half-hour documentary. Implenia Norway is also involved in the project.
The documentary
The film was released under the title “Inside the World's Deepest Subsea Tunnel” and paints a comprehensive picture of what it takes to realise a megaproject of this scale. Viewers are taken into the tunnel, down to the geological challenges beneath the Boknafjord and to the political and cultural decisions that laid the foundation for construction. Implenia Operations Manager Henrik Kohle highlights the good work of everyone involved in the project.
A project of superlatives
When completed, the Boknafjord Tunnel will be 27 kilometres long and reach depths of up to 390 metres below sea level, making it the longest and deepest subsea road tunnel in the world. The fact that The B1M has dedicated half an hour to Rogfast says a great deal about the scale and international reputation of the project.
Berger Johannessen, Managing Director of Implena Norway, explains: “At Implenia, we are helping to set a world record that is being closely followed by international media. That is something we can be proud of!” Or, as presenter Fred Mills says in the episode: “This is the holy grail. This is so cool.”

The E39 Rogfast project, lot E02 Kvitsøy
Between Randaberg on the Norwegian mainland and the islands of Kvitsøy and Bokn, the most complex part of the Rogfast project is taking shape: an 8.8 km, twin-tube, two-lane road tunnel with a cross-section of 10.5 metres, running both south and north of Kvitsøy. In addition, an elaborate underground junction structure is being built, including roundabouts and a connection to Kvitsøy via an underground ramp.
