In Baden, Canton of Aargau, the Mellingerstrasse is being rehabilitated in the Schadenmühle section. Part of this is the renewal of the SBB bridge, whose demolition already attracted a lot of public. On the weekend of May 28, 2022, the new bridge was placed. It had been built in the months before slightly offset next to the old bridge to ensure the flow of traffic during the construction phase.
In a complex process involving longitudinal and transverse shifting, the project team shifted the
800 t heavy
46 m long and
7 m wide bridge
to its final location within 28 hours. The new bridge is not only wider, but also higher - meaning more space for traffic, and thus more safety.
Project manager Roberto Mettler: "The complicated demolition of the old bridge went excellently thanks to the good cooperation of everyone involved. We are proud that the shifting and fitting of the new bridge went according to plan and the road was already open to traffic again on Monday morning."
