Driving sustainable urban mobility in Gothenburg

In central Gothenburg, Implenia is constructing key parts of the Vasastan project on behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The project forms part of West Link (Västlänken), a major infrastructure investment that will improve regional connectivity and create more sustainable urban mobility for future generations.  

A technically demanding project 

The work includes the construction of a double-track railway tunnel, service and rescue tunnels, ventilation facilities and station-related underground infrastructure. Much of the construction takes place deep within the bedrock beneath a dense urban environment, requiring advanced tunnelling expertise, careful planning and close collaboration with stakeholders.  

Visitors to the project are often struck by both the scale of the underground work and the engineering precision required to deliver them safely and efficiently. The progress achieved so far reflects the commitment, expertise and teamwork of the project team working beneath one of Sweden's busiest city centres.
