Between puck and apprenticeship

Demian, you're on your way to an away match in Lausanne. Is the balancing act between sport and teaching already part of your everyday life?
Although I've already got used to the double burden, it's still something special for me when I can leave work early to go to a competition.
What does your daily sporting routine look like?
I currently have two matches a week and daily training sessions from Monday to Saturday - usually after work. Then there are the two morning training sessions at the United School of Sports, which give me individual support with my sport.
How does Implenia support you specifically so that you can achieve your goals in sport and training?
Implenia is extremely accommodating with the working hours. If I have training in the morning or have to leave early for a game, it's never a problem. That's not a given. My previous training company didn't offer this support, so I had to change my apprenticeship.
What does it take from your side to make this arrangement work?
Good planning, clear communication and, above all, performance - both in sport and at work. I learned early on in sport that you have to perform in order to get ahead. Without performance, I wouldn't be at the United School of Sports or at Implenia. This attitude helps me in all areas.
Implenia recognized by Swiss Olympic as a "competitive sports-friendly training company"

Implenia has once again been awarded the "Competitive sports-friendly training company" vignette: Swiss Olympic awards this to companies that enable apprentices to pursue a competitive sports career alongside their basic vocational training Implenia was already recognized as a competitive sports-friendly training company. From 2021 to 2023 - during this time, ice hockey player Bodi Ferguson completed his internship with us.
What experiences from sport are particularly useful to you in your job?
That it only works as a team. Ice hockey is a team sport, and so is working at Implenia, whether in HR Operations, where I'm currently working, or in all the other departments. I see myself as a team player and really enjoy helping other people.
Is there any know-how that you transfer from your professional life to your sporting career?
What I particularly appreciate at Implenia is the management culture. We have top trainers who treat everyone equally. I can learn a lot from them about how to deal with other people. That benefits me in sport, where I'm one of the older age groups at my level.
How do you see your future in sport?
Like every ice hockey player, I dream of turning my hobby into a career and earning money with it. I also want to go abroad one day, because the way of playing ice hockey is different there.

And in your job?
It's important for me to have a professional leg to stand on in case I get injured and can no longer play. I recently had a concussion that could have had serious consequences. The KV apprenticeship is my solid basic training, which I can build on later.
Do you have any habits or rituals before matches?
Before important matches like playoffs, I always do breathing and focus exercises that my mental coach has shown me. They help me to calm down and get ready for the game. Focus exercises are familiar from skiers at the starting gate: they imagine the course in their heads. It's similar in ice hockey: you imagine situations that could happen and prepare yourself mentally for them.
