Ligerz tunnel opens its "doors"

It was a day full of energy and emotion: Children marveled at the creation of a tunnel and were even allowed to drive an excavator; families who turned the event into a shared adventure; residents of the region who were curious to better understand this major infrastructure project and asked exciting questions.
"This day was a real highlight for us: an open exchange with the population and proof of the interest in this project. The trust and recognition we received motivates us to continue our work with passion and commitment," emphasize site manager Eric Liardon and Armand Sharonizadeh, deputy site manager at Implenia for the Ligerz tunnel.
A big thank you to SBB, the great teams from ARGE IBD (Implenia - BernasconiDe Luca), the many silent helpers behind the scenes - and to all the visitors who made this day an unforgettable experience.
With this positive energy, we are determined to take the next steps - until the planned commissioning at the end of 2029. Together, we are not only building a tunnel, but also a piece of the future for the entire region
The "Extension of the line between Ligerz and Twann" project

The expansion of the line between La Neuville and Twann will remove the last single-track section of the Lausanne-Biel railroad line. At the heart of the project is the approximately 2.1 km long Ligerz tunnel, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2029.
The project will create the necessary capacity for a regular half-hourly regional service while ensuring smooth freight traffic.
Particular attention is being paid to sustainability: The excavated material will not be transported by truck, but by ship across Lake Biel. In addition, we are using an environmentally friendly, nitrate-free explosive - Hypex Bio - for the blasting, thereby helping to protect people and nature.
