Ground-breaking ceremony for the Nordmainische S-Bahn in Frankfurt

The Nordmainische S-Bahn project - the construction of two additional tracks between Frankfurt, Maintal and Hanau north of the River Main - is one of the most important rail expansion and capacity projects in the Frankfurt (Main) hub. With the expansion of local transport, the Rhine-Main region is moving even closer together in order to continue to meet people's mobility needs in the future and achieve the agreed climate protection targets. Commuters and travelers will benefit from greater reliability, comfort and punctuality.
As part of this complex project, Implenia is taking on a number of tasks, including
- The construction of several excavation pits including the "starting excavation trough"
- The construction of the Frankfurt (Main) Ost station (deep)
- The mechanized excavation of two tunnel tubes of approx. 1.2 km each
- Comprehensive dewatering and special civil engineering services in an inner-city location
Following execution planning by Implenia by the end of 2025, work is expected to begin in early 2026 and be completed by 2031.
All the speakers at the ceremony were in agreement:
The extensive investments by the federal and state governments mark an important milestone for the noticeable improvement and equalization of local and long-distance transport in the Frankfurt area - with a positive effect far beyond the actual route for the entire Rhine-Main region and the Germany-wide rail network.
A strong project for more capacity, better punctuality and sustainable mobility.
Implenia is proud to be making a key contribution here with its expertise in tunnel construction, civil engineering and specialist foundation engineering.
