Delicate fibres for rock solid reinforcement

The twentieth century was built on steel-reinforced concrete – a heavyweight technology that’s been tried and tested millions of times. But civil engineers are always looking for more refined ways of reinforcing concrete structures. Instead of steel bars as thick as a man’s arm, fibres as thin as hair are increasingly being used, even in tunnel construction where the demands are particularly high.
